Belize Off-Grid: New Itineraries for the Wild-Hearted (2025–2026 Season Update)

If you crave snorkeling over lounging at the beach, remote jungle trails instead of the hustling urban streets.  If you crave spotting birds at sunrise and salt-kissed air—Belize is your next great escape.

This is a place where you paddle across turquoise waters with no one else in sight, hike remote rainforest trails under the canopy of ancient trees, and fall asleep to the rhythmic sound of waves brushing a white-sand shore.

If you’re the kind of traveler who finds joy in the wild, in stories shared under starlit skies, and in places untouched by crowds—then come Explore Belize with us.

At Island Expeditions, we’ve always believed that real adventure comes with muddy shoes, salt in your hair, and a few great stories to be shared under the stars.

For 2025–2026, we’ve crafted new itineraries—and enhanced a few favorites—to bring you into Belize’s wildest corners, in ways that are both sustainable and adventure-filled.

Here’s what’s waiting for you…

Maya Moho River Expedition

Maya Moho River Expedition: The Wild South Unlocked

New for this season, our Maya Moho River Expedition takes you through one of Belize’s wildest corners, where river canyons, Maya villages, and rainforest wildlife sounds replace the crowds.

After a night at Bocawina Rainforest Resort, your journey continues deep into the Mayan homeland of southern Belize, home to traditional Maya communities and some of the most biologically diverse lowland rainforests in Belize.

Why It’s Different:

  • The Moho River winds through limestone canyons, over travertine dams, through broadleaf tropical rainforest, and untouched wilderness—perfect for paddling
  • Santa Teresa & Jordan villages invite us for lunch, offering you a rare window into modern Maya life

  • Nights at river camps allow for unplugged stargazing, immersive jungle sounds, laughs and storytelling, and jungle night walks

This one’s for the true wilderness seeker—the kind of traveler who sees the journey as the destination.

Combine this with one of our shorter reef trips, for an Ultimate Belize Adventure.

For those who thrive on raw outdoor adventure—this is where you go beyond the brochure, into Belize’s untamed south, where culture, nature, and simplicity meet.

Double Atoll

Double Atoll: The Trip No One Else Is Offering

Two remote atolls. Eleven unforgettable nights. Zero crowds.

Our Double Atoll Adventure is best of both worlds, that takes you across two of Belize’s most pristine and protected reef systems: Glover’s Reef and Lighthouse Reef Atolls, plus an inland jungle adventure through the Maya Mountains. This trip is one-of-a-kind tropical journey that every adventure traveler dreams of.

 Where You Go:

  • Glover’s Reef Atoll & Southwest Caye – Located 36 miles offshore, this oval-shaped coral atoll is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the richest marine habitats in the Caribbean. Its shallow lagoon is perfect for sea kayaking, snorkeling, and exploring patch reefs teeming with marine life—from eagle rays to sea turtles.

  • Bocawina Rainforest Resort, Mayflower National Park – Home to over 300 species of birds and multiple cascading waterfalls, this rainforest reserve is a hidden gem for hiking, ziplining, and spotting wildlife like coatimundis and toucans and even jaguars have been spotted here..

  • Lighthouse Reef Atoll & Half Moon Caye – Fifty-six miles offshore and only accessible by boat, this remote island paradise is surrounded by crystalline water and coral walls. Half Moon Caye is Belize’s first national park and nesting site for red-footed boobies and frigate birds, with trails through a rare island littoral forest.

 Why It’s Special:

  • Snorkel the Great Blue Hole, or the famous “aquarium”, Middle Caye Patch,  and camp under the stars

  • Split your time between lush rainforest and remote islands feet away from the Barrier reef

  • Access two UNESCO-designated marine reserves in one seamless trip

If your dream trip blends jungle hikes with coral reef dives—you’re in the right place. This trip is ideal for anyone who craves coral gardens and natural waterfalls in the jungle off the beaten path.

Light House Reef Adventure

Lighthouse Reef Basecamp Just Got Smoother

To make it easier for travelers,  we have now included a night in Belize City at the start of every Lighthouse Reef Basecamp trip. You’ll rest up, wake refreshed, and cruise 56 miles offshore the next morning to Half Moon Caye, a palm-fringed island surrounded by spectacular coral gardens.

Highlights:

  • Snorkeling the rim of the Great Blue Hole

  • Exploring The Aquarium—a vibrant reef site named for its incredible visibility and density of marine life

  • Birdwatching at one of the region’s most important nesting colonies

  • Basecamp is situated on Half Moon Caye, a protected island with zero development except our camp and the Belize Audubon Society’s ranger station.

Choose from:

  • 4-night snorkeling-focused trips

  • 5-night or 8-night adventures with paddleboarding, kayak sailing, snorkeling and optional scuba diving

All trips include our signature “basecamping” experience: glamping in safari tents right on the beach, with real beds and the reef just steps away.

This is reef life without the resort: untamed, intimate, and unforgettable. As an Island Expeditions guest, you’ll have exclusive access to overnight stays on Half Moon Caye—a privilege few get to experience. No crowds, no tourist traps, no noise—just a small group, the reef, and a sky full of stars.

Maya Reef Explorer

Maya Reef Explorer: Trimmed, Tuned, and Terrific

We’ve made our popular Maya Reef Explorer even tighter and more accessible—now a 6-night itinerary that still covers Belize’s inland and reef wonders.

Where You Go:

  • Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary – A vast inland lagoon system teeming with herons, jabiru storks, and black howler monkeys. This is prime birding territory and a gateway to the ruins of Altun Ha and Lamanai, two of Belize’s most storied Maya cities.

  • Lighthouse Reef Basecamp – Finish strong with three nights on Half Moon Caye, where the coral reef is your playground and the horizon is your only neighbor.  Lighthouse Reef Atoll offers a world-class snorkeling experience in one of the most remote and breathtaking marine sanctuaries in the Caribbean.

You’ll explore ancient cities by boat, spot crocodiles on the New River, and end the week snorkeling in turquoise waters.
