Back in early December 2018, a historical expedition was lead to the bottom of the Great Blue Hole in Belize. Aquatica Submarines in collaboration with the Roatan Institute of Deep Sea Exploration (RIDE), Fabien Cousteau and Richard Branson took multiple submersibles and dove to the bottom of the 407ft/124m site.
After this initial expedition, 30 plus more dives took place in order to record data and footage for scientific research.
One of the groups that participated in the research, was Maralliance. Maralliance used the submarines from the Blue Hole expedition with Aquatica Submarines. They collected environmental data to help them with their research on the sharks and rays in the Blue Hole and the surrounding Lighthouse Reef area. Founder and Executive Director of Maralliance, Dr Rachel Graham and team are doing amazing work to raise awareness about the health of the Mesoamerican reef.
