Q: Who will my guides be?
A: We have a few of our current trip leaders listed here.  If you would like to find out who your leaders will be for any given departure you can find out from the reservations office just before you depart.  If  you have travelled with us before and you would like to request a specific guide we will do our best fit the guides schedule with your travel

Q: What do I need to bring?
A: A complete packing list (along with many more details) will be sent to you at the time of booking.  This information can also be accessed from here.

Q: Can I create a custom itinerary and/or book a private trip?
A: Yes, you can.  We work with families, small groups, clubs, or special events to put together a customized itinerary for you. More details.

Q: Are there Island Expeditions trips my whole family can enjoy?
A: Yes, there are several that are popular with families. With our focus on Adventure and learning our trips are a great match for kids. Each family is different and the best way to begin your planning is by speaking with one of our expedition directors who after learning about your family will guide you to the trips that will best suit what you are looking for in your holiday. Our basecamp trips are often ideal when travelling with children Lighthouse Reef and Glover's Reef.

Q: Does Island Expeditions offer any group discounts?

Booking Information

Q: How do I sign up for my Island Expeditions trip?
A: Please visit our Book A Trip page for more details.

Q: What kind of deposit is required and how often are payments due?
A: A $200 non-refundable deposit is required at the time of booking and the balance is due either 60 or 90 days before you depart.  If booking within 60 days, the full balance is due at the time of booking.

Q: Will Island Expeditions help me with my international air arrangements?
A: We can help you with the research to find the best possible flight.  Visit our Belize Flight Information page for more information on costs from your point of origin.

Q: Does Island Expeditions offer any travel protection insurance?
A: We do not sell insurance directly.  World Nomads has options to cover all aspects of your trip and you can find more information on our website here: World Nomads.  You can also purchase insurance through your insurance broker, AAA, your credit card provider, or any licensed insurance agent/company.

Q: What are my rooming options if I'm traveling alone?
A: If you are flexible and are willing to share, there is no additional cost if we are able to pair you up with another single traveler.  If not, we have a discounted supplement that will apply.  If you wish to have your own room, based on availability at the time of booking, we do have a single supplement, which is included on the "Dates & Prices" page on each trip.

Q: Can I change my mind and transfer to another trip?
A:  If we have space remaining on another departure, we are happy to move you to another trip.  An administration fee may apply.  Please contact us for details.

Q:  Can Island Expeditions guarantee that my trip will run?
A:  No, we can not.  However, if we sell you a trip it will likely be running.  In the unlikely event that IE has to cancel your trip, we will work closely with you to find you an alternative of equal or greater value. On most weeks in our operating season we have three or four different trips running, so in the unlikely event we have to cancel a departure because of low sign-up we will work closely with you to make sure we have alternatives available that closely match your original itinerary. And always, you can choose a full refund for the land portion of your trip if we have to cancel the departure.

Q:  When will I receive the documentation I need to prepare for my trip?
A:  At the time of booking, you will be emailed a trip confirmation, including invoice, and links to your Pre-Trip Information Package

Q:  Will I need a visa?
A:  Canadian and American Citizens do not require a visa.  If you are a citizen of another nation, please check here to see if you require a visa for entry into Belize.

Q:  C an I extend my Island Expeditions trip?
A:  Yes, you can.  Please contact our office  for details on what you are thinking.  We can help you with recommendations for independent travel and we can also discuss options for extending your stay on one of our getaways or trip extensions.

Q:  What happens if I have to cancel my trip?
A:  It depends on how close you are to the departure date. Our Cancellation Policy is outlined on this page.   Contact our office for details.
