Belize Maya Culture, Past & Present

Our DISCOVERY of the Mayan culture spans thousands of years from ancient ruins to present day villages scattered in the rainforest

We take you to the classic Mayan sites - Lamanai, Altun Ha, and Xunantunich.  We also explore little-known caves such as the Actun Tunichil Muknal cave system and Mayan Pottery Caves, where we find pottery and artifacts still untouched - indicating these caves were at one time ceremonial centers of the ancient Maya. It is an incredible lifetime experience to view these centuries-old artifacts and learn of the Mayan rituals, symbols, and mythology they represent.

The culture of the Kekchi and Mopan Maya not only exist in the ruins and artifacts of a time long past, but you will find that the Maya are a vibrant and thriving culture in Belize today. Our interactions with Mayan villages and traveling with our Mayan guides through the rainforest provides a wonderful insight into how the Mayan people have evolved and adapted to the modern world. Our guests tell us time and again that the opportunity to travel and learn in the rainforest with our Mayan guides is a highlight of their trip.
