Island Expeditions Co. Offers Family Vacations To Belize during the 2011 – 2012 Holiday Season

Island Expeditions Co. has been offering a wide variety of family friendly vacations to Belize for all ages for the past 25 years.   Island Expeditions offers an exciting array of trips that explore this culturally diverse country, situated along the Caribbean coastline of Central America.  From the lush interior rainforests to the white coral sand beaches of Lighthouse Reef Atoll and Glover’s Reef Atoll, IEC offers a wide variety of family friendly multi-sport adventures. All family planners know that each family member has their own idea of what a vacation means to them.  It is for that reason that during the holiday travel season, Island Expeditions’ adventure Basecamps on Glover’s Reef and Lighthouse Reef has been so popular with families.  Guests can pick and choose which activities they want to do each day, ensuring the flexibility that all family members’ needs are met.  While at either the Glover’s Reef or Lighthouse Reef Basecamp, activities include kayaking, snorkelling, fishing and swimming, exploring the island or relaxing in a hammock amongst the palm trees.  While snorkeling you are likely to see grouper, bonefish, angel and parrot fish, stingrays, tarpon, moray eels, and three different species of turtle, just to name a few.  In addition to spending time out at the Cayes, both the Glover’s Reef and Lighthouse Reef trips begin with an inland journey. All Lighthouse Reef vacations begin with an inland journey to the Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary allowing time to explore Belize’s oldest Creole Settlement.   You partake in a boat tour through the Crooked Tree lagoons to experience the incredible birding and wildlife opportunities the area has to offer, including iguanas, turtles, ibis’ and Morlet’s crocodiles to mention a few frequent sightings.  The Glover’s Reef and River of Caves begins with an inland journey to the Tropical Education Centre (TEC), in conjunction with the Belize Zoo.   A nocturnal tour of the Belize Zoo with a senior Zoo Keeper is also a highlight, as most of the rainforest mammals are nocturnal.  Wildlife viewing at the zoo includes jaguars, howler monkeys, parrots, macaws and many more which are all endemic to Belize.  The following morning the group heads to the ‘River of Caves’ for a two-hour floating tour (using inner tubes) underground through a limestone cave system rich with spectacular stalactites and stalagmites. After the cave tour the group enjoys a unique view of the Rainforest Canopy by traveling on a series of zip lines and treetop platforms. 2011/2012 Holiday Departure Dates: Glover’s Reef & River of Caves Trip – 7 days/8 nights, $1839/person 2011 - 2012 Holiday Departures:  December 19, 26 and January 2 Lighthouse Reef Trip – 7 days/8 nights, $1849/person 2011 – 2012 Holiday Departures:  December 18 & January 1
