Glover’s Reef for variety and active exploration
Glover’s Reef feels wonderfully removed from everyday life. The atoll lies about 36 miles off the coast of Dangriga, and its sparse population and broad lagoon create a strong sense of space. Once you arrive at Southwest Caye, the sea becomes the centre of each day.

The Southern Barrier Reef offers a different kind of immersion. Rather than staying only at a remote atoll basecamp, selected itineraries use Tobacco Caye as a home on the reef. This tiny palm-covered island sits within the South Water Caye Marine Reserve and brings you closer to the everyday character of Belize’s southern cayes.
Here, your accommodation may be a simple over-water cabana with a private deck above the turquoise sea. You can snorkel, kayak or paddleboard, then return to a hammock and watch marine life move through the shallows. The pace can feel more relaxed, and the connection to local island culture is more noticeable.
The Southern Barrier Reef is also the easiest of the three experiences to pair with a fuller Belize itinerary.
