Snorkeling In Belize

Snorkeling on your trip with Island Expeditions

Belize, A Snorkeling Paradise

Belize is renowned for offering some of the finest coral reef snorkeling in the entire Caribbean. While great snorkeling sites can be found throughout the country, the outer atolls of Lighthouse & Glover’s Reef are especially celebrated for their exceptional concentration of healthy, vibrant reefs.

During a typical trip, many of our guests snorkel multiple times per day. With the help of our knowledgable guides, an attentive snorkeler can discover upwards of 50 different reef species in a single session!

Our snorkels are fully guided by certified professional guides and are designed to keep each individual guest engaged. Whether you’re interested in learning about fish identification or you just want to keep your head down and explore — Island Expeditions has you covered.

Beginners Welcome

No previous snorkeling experience is needed to enjoy an Island Expeditions trip — our guides provide personalized support to help everyone feel safe and confident in the water. Before the first snorkel, we lead a brief introductory session covering equipment, safety and proper technique followed by a shallow water session designed for our guests to test their gear and comfort level. Since our trips involve plenty of time in and around the water, we recommend having a basic level of swimming ability and general comfort in the marine environment.

Gear & Equipment

Island Expeditions has masks, snorkels, and fins available for rent. For children and those who tend to run cold, we recommend bringing a 2mm shortie wetsuit. Besides safety gear, the single most important piece of snorkeling equipment is a well fitting mask. The best way to find one is by visiting your local dive shop and trying on a variety of masks. To test the fit of a new mask first place it to your face without the strap, gently inhale through your nose, look down, and wiggle your head back and fourth — a well fitting mask will stay on your face.
