A friend and I were looking for a holiday that would give us adventure, exercise and relaxation, and Island Adventures provided all of that an more. Incredibly well organized by an experienced and friendly staff, we snorkeled, SUP'd and ocean kayaked on this beautiful Island for a week. The food was delicious, the accommodations comfortable and clean. Looking forward to doing it again.
We had a great trip this past February with Island Expeditions. Everything we had looked forward to was better than expected. On the Maya World Extension we excited about the number of bird sightings we had; in addition we very much enjoyed the lodge and our fellow guests- the staff was very courteous, helpful and clearly proud of their home.
The trip to Lighthouse Reef was wonderful - we loved the reef and the fact that we had it to ourselves much of the time. But we also loved sharing the reef with the boobies and frigate birds. They were nesting and hatching chicks which was very special to watch over our week there. Our undersea neighbours were fascinating as well. So many colourful fish, barracuda, shark, turtles and coral. As with the Maya world portion of our trip the Island Expeditions staff were amazing; always helpful, always concerned to ensure we were enjoying our holiday. They were all very special people, and I very much appreciate how much of themselves they gave. Their qualities reflect so well on the Belizean people! I would not hesitate to recommend Island Expeditions to anyone, and hope that I may return again.
Wonderful trip away from the world. The staff were knowledgeable and enthusiastic no matter what the activity. I enjoyed snorkeling the most and the reefs offered an abundant variety of sea life that rivaled anything I'd ever seen elsewhere. We had a great time with the fellow travelers in our group.
the food was delicious and satisfying. We are true Belizers now.
The Lighthouse Reef Adventure is popular for a reason and that is nature at it’s finest. The rookery with the Red-footed boobie birds and magnificent frigate birds are a joy to encounter. As well, the snorkeling at the aquarium is divine. When weather does not permit a trip to the aquarium IE has a back up plan. This time we snorkeled by Long Caye. It is all so amazing. Island Expeditions is so organized, experienced, friendly and thorough. We had another great adventure. This was our third expedition with IE and would repeat in a heartbeat.
Some of the kindest people you will ever meet clearly are from Belize. The weather in March is warm and perfect. Nice breezes and broken clouds keep you from too much heat.
The Bird's Eye View Lodge was FANTASTIC. The Belize Biltmore Plaza was PERFECT! Half Moon Caye Basecamp will stay in my heart forever!
All guides were awesome, but I have to single out Jack for his leadership, knowledge and ability to challenge and inspire the guests. Bryan for his love of finding & sharing the joys of underwater. Dayton for his ability to make ALL of us laugh and enjoy our time together. Pablo for his calmness, leadership and knowledge of the sea and Terence (Roo) for his quiet humor as still waters run deep!
The food was FANTASTIC - thank you ladies for delicious, cooked with love meals! Thank you for all the work your team did to make such an amazing adventure for us to share together. FUN, FUN, FUN!!!
This was our second trip to Belize so we found the country and it's people as welcoming as we had experienced the first time. Lighthouse Reef is very insulated from the world - part of its essential charm. Indeed it's a wonderful 'soft' adventure destination; actually it exceeded our expectations! All of the staff are clearly very proud to be working for Island Expeditions.
We would have liked to spend more time at the Crooked Tree Lodge as it was well worth the detour.
The whole team of guides on Lighthouse Reef were amazing. They were all so knowledgable of the country, history and the ocean around them....every time we went out either snorkelling or kayaking we would learn something new and found some new sea creature to check out. The guides made sure we were comfortable and open to an activity. They were accommodating to all.
Bol's food was amazing, we still can't stop talking about it. We ate like Kings! I think that the chef's should think about putting together a cookbook....I would definately pay money for that.
We could not imagine a better time. So organized, clean, comfortable and well-maintained. The activities were amazing. The staff were so caring - they worked well together with no tension at all and they all seemed to be happy to be with us and happy to see us doing well.
We have done group trips in the past. Although we cannot compare locations, we have to say this trip was outstanding in many areas such as value, staff, food and activities. Island Expeditions cooks went over and above to cater to my no wheat diet...the food was outstanding.
Crooked Tree was an awesome location and staff were exceptional. The Best Western was good, but due to location - there were not a lot of restaurants close by.
I found Belize to be a perfect destination for our family - friendly, warm, beautiful and incredible snorkeling. I want to give the guides a special thanks - we were traveling with our two young boys (ages 8 & 5) and all of the guides were very good to them from start to finish. It was Zack and Mason's first snorkeling trip and they are hooked. They are already after us to book again for next year - we told them that we have to start saving!
The incredible food was Simply Spectacular! I am a vegetarian and both cooks - Bol and Annette - made certain that I was well taken care of at each meal. Their meal presentations added extra zip and we were so impressed.
First time to join a trip of Island Expedition. Felt so great with overall experience and to have two great guides, Jack and Brian. This is a trip for people love snorkeling, kayaking and ready to explore other water sports. The bird-watching tour at Crook Tree was fantastic.
Great trip with adult children
If you enjoy sun, sand, good food, excellent service, knowledgeable staff, caring people, a group of people who take care of you if there is a problem then traveling with Island Expeditions does all that and more! I have had the pleasure of going to both Lighthouse and Glover's Reef three times and plan on going again in 2015. They go above and beyond to make sure you have a vacation that is relaxing and fun. They take care of everything they can for you and the only thing they can't take care of is the weather
This was our second time at Half Moon Caye with Island Expeditions. The first trip (2013) was the "Lighthouse Getaway" and we enjoyed it so much we we decided to return for a full week this year. It was fabulous! Our main guide Pablo was excellent and all the staff worked very hard to ensure our comfort and to accommodate our activities preferences. This includes not only the staff on the ground, but the administrative staff we dealt with by phone and online but never actually met. And, it is worth noting that guides take great care to ensure safety at all times so that trying new things (for us it was paddle boarding) is an adventure to be embraced, not an experience to approach with fear. Being very familiar with Belize, we have a pretty good idea of what is good value for your money and this trip was very high value. We'll be back!
After visiting most reefs Island Expeditions has to offer, I found Half Moon Bay the most impressive, that's not to put down the others as they are all different and unforgettable. The guides and staff are what makes these trips so special, they deserve my biggest "thank you". The Belize Audubon Society maintains Lighthouse reef including looking after the rare Red Footed Booby colony found only in a few places on earth. That alone makes this island so special. New and welcome - the paddle boards, I got hooked. Make sure you bring earplugs to blot out the noise generated by the steel tent frames, don't worry about sandflies there are non on this island. As with the other reefs there is a nasty plastic debris-ring around the shores reminding us that our efforts are needed to keep this marvelous ecosystem from disappearing. Support the Belize Audubon Society and voice your objection to industrial exploitation of the second biggest reef on the planet before its too late.
You hire superb people and train them well. Both Crooked Tree and Belize City Hotel were very nice. The weather on Lighthouse Reef, including the storm, was wonderful. Temp + breeze + Love it!
All your guides were amazing and helped make the trip such a great experience. The trip far exceeded our expectations. Bird's Eye View Lodge was wonderful and the camp at Halfmoon caye was exceptional.
We will remember our time in Belize for a long time. The people were very friendly, the weather was perfect and we are telling all of our friends they have to visit!
Island Expeditions have created something really unique and special. A fantastic combination of being fully supported in a spectacular setting, without being a resort. The perfect mix!
I was looking for an adventure trip for my son and me and this turned out better than we could have imagined. The group dynamic was great, the island was beautiful and so well kept, the food was fantastic and the staff were above and beyond amazing. From kayaking and snorkelling to yoga, volleyball and board games, we never missed the internet! I will definitely recommend Island Expeditions.
