Guiding
for Island Expeditions Co.
Island
Expeditions is always interested to meet qualified, experienced
guides to compliment our team in Belize.
Quality
leadership is an integral part of any great trip and is what helps
to distinguish Island Expeditions trips from the rest. Our leaders,
far and away the most experienced in Belize, are consummate professionals
taking great pride and personal pleasure in sharing and creating
memorable travel experiences for our clients. Each Island Expeditions
trip is lead by one North American leader, who works closely with
a number of local Belizean guides.
When
hiring new guides, we consider two distinct elements - hard skills
and soft skills. Hard skills are your technical background, and
proficiency in sea kayak and river kayak navigation. Soft skills
are sometimes harder to define, but can be encompassed with natural
history interpretive skills, the ability to work across cultures,
and to be an ambassador for Belize and adventure travel with Island
Expeditions Co..
Basic
skills and certifications in Swiftwater Rescue, Wilderness First
Aid and Sea kayaking instruction and navigation is essential as
well as a background in natural history, marine biology, teaching,
or related fields. A minimum of 3 years commercial guiding on multi-day
trips is required to apply, previous experience in Belize will be
considered an asset.
