When?
Island Expeditions operates its tours in Belize
from December through to the end of April each year. Because
of the outdoor nature of their programs, all of the trips
are scheduled to take advantage of the Dry Season (which traditionally
is December through April each year).
Why?
When
traveling with Island Expeditions Co., you’re a part
of the action—both tourism and conservation working
together so that the wild places we visit remain for future
generations to enjoy. As we explore our world entering the
21st century, we are more mindful of the need to financially
support wildlife habitat conservation, cultural education,
and sustainable development in the communities we visit. Generally,
Island Expeditions visits areas outside of the normal tourist
tracks, which rarely see tourism dollars, hence bringing much
needed income to smaller towns and villages.
In
addition to this support, a selection of our trips are directly
operated in partnership with the Belize Zoo and Belize Audubon
Society, utilizing their facilities and with full access to
their renowned leaders, scientists and educators. Listed below
are some of the important organizations we are proud to support,
whose tireless efforts and hard work have led to the creation
of many parks, wildlife sanctuaries and marine reserves throughout
the country of Belize.

BELIZE
ZOO & TROPICAL EDUCATION CENTER
The Belize Zoo and Tropical Education Center was started in
1983 as a last ditch effort to provide a home for a collection
of semi-tame wildlife which had been used in making documentary
films about tropical forests. Early in the process of establishing
the zoo the founders came to realize that many Belizeans were
unaware of the great diversity of wildlife in their own land.
From this recognition grew a commitment to create a place
where Belizeans could experience first-hand the magnificent
bounty nature has bestowed upon their small country. Today,
the Belize Zoo is internationally acclaimed as a phenomenally
successful conservation and education organization.
